I am trying to give an explanation about the shad you have to use and when to use them especially fishing for walleye. In the different times of the year, we use different types of shads, depending on their action. The colder the water, the less action we want. European Walleye is a strange fish and you are never sure of what bait will do the trick. Even on the same day the Walleye can change her appetite into something else so you are catching nice fish on your brown/white culprit and the next thing you know is your neighbor is catching Walleye on a hammertail in Black. Always change your baits first when hits stop and try several different baits before you leave the spot. Walleye is a schooling fish and only the big mama’s are solitary.
I have been catching Walleye on a pink Finn-S with the terrible smell of garlic, After hits stopped I put a strip of fresh fish on the jig hook and started to catch again. The smell was the trigger. It must be clear to you that there is no miracle shad and no miracle tactic but you have to use variation all day long until you fish on the right spot with the right bait and right tactic on the right time.
You see it is not as easy as said to catch predator fish because they can be very picky in their menu and even on the depth they swim around. The man on the picture and the Lund cap on his head, is the champion in fishing for Walleye. He is fishing every weekend and holidays and knows hundreds of hotspots on lots of waters. On one of his favorite waters we were fishing and the next thing happened. On the bottom my mates did catch Walleye but bites were very pore. I decided to troll with down deep wobbles up to 7 meters deep and got hit after hit on water more than 12 meters deep. I was lucky to find a school Walleye swimming on half water and won the match here.
Keep trying
Bert
